The Rail, Port Angeles

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

After an overnight bikepacking trip on the Olympic Adventure Trail, I was ready for a meal before driving home to Seattle. I headed to The Rail with a couple of guys I befriended on my journey. I opted for the Ollie burger: garlic cream cheese aioli, pickled jalapeños, and jack cheese, topped with fried onion rings! They allow Beyond Burger patty substitutions for an up charge. I’m a fan of the substitutions, because you’re able to order much the same as others. It also allows smaller places that would likely not make their own veggie patties to expand their offerings. But, I’m not a fan of the extra cost for veggie patties! I know that, for now, they cost more than meat (thanks, messed up subsidies), but the price across meat and veggie burgers should be levelized.

Keep in mind I was hungry from lots of biking, but the burger tasted quite good! The bun was okay, not amazing, but the amount of sauce was just right so the burger wasn’t dry but also not too messy. I loved the onion rings on top! I just wish the jalapeños had been chopped more finely so they were more evenly distributed for each bite. Tater tots on the side hit the spot. We ate in a small area they had out back. All in all, a good meal!
