Back when I first moved to Seattle about a decade ago, I would come by the Neighbor Lady for its vegan reuben sandwich when I didn’t want to make myself food since I lived nearby. Since then, the restaurant, and the block, has changed substantially. The Neighbor Lady is now situated in a new development and, pleasantly, has an outdoor seating area in a courtyard–a long way from the dimly bit bar I used to frequent.
Now they’re serving the “Earth burger”, a housemade veggie patty with cashew ricotta, arugula, pickles, onion jam, and vegan aioli. I don’t even have to ask them to omit the tomato! The menu doesn’t say what the patty is made of, but to me it had a beety taste. The pickles contributed significantly to the flavor profile. Overall, it wasn’t messy to eat and everything was totally fine. I just wish the burger had a bit more chonk to it.
I’ll be back because they offer veggie poutine! They also have a vegan cheese plate which I was told is quite good by a cheese-appreciating non-vegan, so I am curious. If you’re in Seattle’s Central District and want some vegetarian food, it’s worth checking this place out.
