Methow Valley Ciderhouse, Winthrop

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

I love cider, I love mac n cheese, and I obviously love veggie burgers, so after perusing some menus, this seemed like the spot to visit before running the Sun Mountain 50k the next morning. While I got all three of those things, I was sadly a bit disappointed.

I must begin by saying visiting the Methow Valley and Winthrop is wonderful. The Methow Valley Ciderhouse is a short walk from “downtown” Winthrop, though do be warned: there’s not a sidewalk the whole way. Once there, you are able to sit outside on their large porch. It’s a beautiful area, so I definitely recommend doing so as long as the weather is decent.

Their menu didn’t specify what came on their veggie burger. Turns out, it comes with lettuce, onion, and pickles on the side to add into the burger, which is already topped with avocado and mushrooms. The avocado and mushrooms were the somewhat redeeming part: the patty itself didn’t seem house made. Its texture was a bit dry and stringy, and while it tasted fine it wasn’t very flavorful. For what it was, $15 seemed expensive, though prices in the area are generally elevated.

The side of mac n cheese was also not stellar. It’s hard to make mac n cheese taste bad, but this was mediocre at best. While I was well-caloried for my upcoming run, I was a littler disappointed in the food. I’d go back, but just for some cider and generic sides.
