After an overnight flight, I was ready for some non-plane food! I met a friend by the Helsinki train station, who suggested that we have a late lunch at Junk y Vegan, which was just a couple minutes’ walk away. It was a good choice!
The restaurant/bar has some seating outside, but we opted to sit inside for the shade. As the name suggests, it’s a fully vegan establishment with a focus on junk(y) food. In their case, this means several veggie burger options! I decided to have the Port o Belly, which contains an herb marinated portobello mushroom, greens, vegan blue cheese mayonnaise, coleslaw, onion, and tomato (which I, of course, removed). The burger is served in a paper baggie so you don’t get so much mess on your hands – and good thing, since it was a little drippy!
The burger was a little sweeter than I expected, possibly thanks to the coleslaw, but it was quite nice and the overall flavor went well with the bun. Since the mushroom wasn’t breaded it was a little simple, but tasty. I got fries and vegan truffle mayo on the side, which was good as well. Overall, I was pleased with my burger and enjoyed the general vibes at the restaurant. I would happily go back for another burger, a drink, or for the drag brunch that they host!
