Vancouver has no shortage of tasty spots. For a Saturday brunch, we decided to go to Chickpea, a vegan restaurant in the Riley Park neighborhood. And yes, I had a veggie burger for brunch. Chickpea has a handful of burger options; I decided to try the “Ke-Bah-Burg” which comes with their “Chickebab” patty, fried onions, and tzatziki. The plate also comes with salad, a heaping pile of fries, and their vegan garlic mayo.
Overall, the burger was good. I don’t know if I would want the patty on its own, but when mixed with the toppings, particularly the tzatziki, the burger felt very light and fresh–a bit odd for a burger, but nice! The tzatziki was quite tasty, but also messy as they were generous with their serving. The patty started squishing apart too, so my hands were quite a mess. Rarely for me, I was unable to finish my fries as there were so many. The garlic mayo was very nice.
Next time I go, though, I might skip the burger and instead opt for their “latkes benechick”. My husband had those and they were extremely good. Overall, if you’re in Vancouver and want a great vegan meal, Chickpea is a spot to check out.
